Calibration & Instrument Repair Electrician (Shipyard)
We are looking for very experienced Calibration & Instrument Repair Electricians with 25 or more years of electrical experience.
Located in Newport News, Virginia
Pay depending upon experience up to $38 an hour and $120 a day per diem for days worked. This is an opportunity to work up to two years and make a real difference . On top of great pay we also offer .50 cents an hour for every hour worked as a perfect attendance bonus paid weekly!
Experience:
The Fiber Optic Electrician must have (25) or more years of experience in the electrical field – Industrial, Marine or Commercial Nuclear applications.
Required skills:
- Must have extensive knowledge of fiber systems onboard aircraft carriers and submarines.
- Experienced in troubleshooting, repair, operation, installation, test, and checkout of Navy Ship or shore fiber optic systems in accordance with NAVSEA specifications.
- Demonstrates proficiency in fiber optic connector building to including STs, SCs, and LCs on conventional and functional blown optical fiber/fusion splicing.
- Has constructed IT Rooms and components including racks, patch panels, and cabinets
- Experienced with identifying issues with fiber using a laser.
- Proficient in identifying and installation/removal of fiber optic interconnection box (FOICB) equipment or parts requiring simple hand tools.
- Possess extensive technical skills to work independently and to provide guidance to entry level installers/technicians
- Performed work in nuclear propulsion plants and power generation systems
- Must be proficient in reading and interpreting shipboard electrical installation drawings, wiring tables, schematics, and work packages.
- Possess extensive knowledge of electrical components and schematic symbols in a system
- Highly competent in reading and utilizing test procedures and work documents
- Proficient in the use of basic fiber meters and test instruments (Tempo. OTDR).
- Must be knowledgeable in lockout/tag out and hazardous energy control procedures.
- Proficient in reading schematics and determine the cause of the fault in the system drawings and components.
- Proficient in the use of basic electrician hand tools (i.e. Pliers, wrenches, sockets, screwdrivers, connector crimping tools, etc.)
- Physically able to climb vertical and inclined stairs and ladders, crawl, bend, stoop, work at heights, and work in confined spaces.
- Able to obtain a clearance (Secret/Confidential)
